Dating to the 1920s and from Tindeco - here's a nicely lithographed candy container, biscuit container or lunch box featuring Mother Goose, nursery rhyme characters including Puss in Boots, the Big Bad Wolf, a bear, a dog and a rabbit) and a little girl blowing a horn. The container retains its handle, it's closure mechanism and about 92% of the graphics. Good, strong color - plain top on the lid. But, the inside shows its age.....
Condition: There is chippiness here and there but not so much as to distract the eye from the colorful composition. The latch mechanism opens and closes as it should. The bottom shows a touch of wear while the inside shows a whole heck of a lot of rust spots. If the inside can be cleaned, I don't know what you would use - but the inside could also certainly be lined with fabric to cover the marks.
Metal Content: Tin Hallmarks: TINDECO on the bottom of the container
Size: Stands 3-1/8" high; bottom dimensions are 5-3/4" x 3-5/8".
Final Comments: Just a wonderful bit of Art Deco inspiration for a nursery. And no, my bear doesn't come with the container but he sure does look good with it, doesn't he?
