From France and dating to the late 1890s to early 1900s, may I offer this antique prayer card featuring a tiny piece of Victorian die cut (blue forget me nots), a black & white picture (Notre Dame de Fourviere) and a bit of blue ribbon holding a tiny silver religious medal.
The writing on the card is in French and is a souvenir of a visit to the Cathedral. Made by nuns for selling at the church, this small card also has a recommended prayer on the reverse for asking help of the Holly Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus.
The card measures 3-/2" x 2" while the silver medal measures 3/8" x 1/4". The medal depicts the Virgin alone on one side and the Madonna & Child on the other. As you can see, the medal has darkened quite a bit due to tarnish and in doing so has scuffed the card a bit. I do not know if the medal is solid silver or not - my best guess would e silverplate as the card most likely cost only a penny or two.
Light age to the piece, a touch of browning due to the loss of part of the die cut but overall, a nice little French religious collectible!
