Dating to the 1920s or so and made by the Webster Co., here's a small silver container for which function I know not. It could be a memo holder, but the paper is missing. It could be a cigarette case, but it's kinda small for ciggies. It could be a compact, but there's no pad or pencil. It certainly could hold a few bills or some tiny mini necessities but that's about it. Lovely hand hammered front with a cartouche to add a monogram. Back is plain. Push button open mechanism at the top. Condition is very nice though there is a shallow indent at the back near the edge - hard to see in my photo as, if you look straight on, nothing appears amiss. A jeweler might be able to tap out so that the area is once again flat.
Metal is Sterling Silver with Hallmarks of STERLING along with the Webster hallmark - a W over a large C then a small "o".
Size when closed is 2-1/2" x 1-3/4"; depth is about 5/16". Weight is 29.8 grams.
Just too cute!
