Dating to the late 1800s may I offer this delightful pin for collar or lapel. Made of rose gold and covered on the top with platinum, the brooch offered is in the shape of an insect, a fly I think. With 2 faceted rubies (tested) for eyes, 4 rose cut diamonds (tested) in the wings and a golden yellow cultured pearl for the back of the body, the pin has a plunger closure helping me to determine age. Condition is very nice with no problems I can spot however, the pin itself is very short and needs to be carefully inserted into the barrel for full security in the closure. (Of course a new pin can always be added by your local jeweler).
Metal Content: 14K Gold with no hallmark - any mark would have compromised the integrity of the piece. The top of the pin is covered in a layer of platinum though it is possible it might be white gold.
Gemstones: The ruby eyes measure 1.2mm each and are a pink coloring more than red. The rose cut diamonds are clear and sparkly - about 1mm each. The cultured pearl (possibly natural) measures 5mm. Good lustre - no visible blemishes.
Size: Small at 15/16" wide x 5/8" wide.
Weight: 2.6 grams
Final Comments: Absolutely adorable!
