May I offer…
AGE: C.1880 or so, possibly earlier, perhaps a little later.
ITEM: A pair of Italian (possibly French) gilt wood plinthes or pedestals featuring bun feet and velvet tops. The bottoms are marked with "13" denoting that the pair is a true matched set.
CONDITION: The pieces are Shabby Vintage Chic in look - a little chippy here, a little chippy there. The velvet has pretty much faded from view but you can tell that the original coloring was Royal Burgundy.
HALLMARKS: 13 in pencil on both pieces - initials of B.S. are also visible on one and G. 12 on the other. Perhaps inventory marks from the maker.
SIZE: 6" x 4-7/16" x 1-3/8" high (from bottom of bun feet to top) The size is perfect for a statue, jewelry boxes, candelabra.
WEIGHT: Probably 2-3 pounds on their own (combined).
FINAL COMMENTS: These are very hard to find beauties that I have personally owned since my first trip to London in 1984. They are very hard to find as a matched set and will feature well in any style of decor.
